As Parents we seem to do a lot of teaching, discipline & more discipline. We often do not get to see our kids being good examples or doing well outside our families as much as we would like. Today we were very pleasantly surprised when we received this email from Dylan's 9th grade English teacher. Dylan has done some amazing creative writing in the past but Jason and I, like his teacher, thought this was incredible. Below is the email from his teacher and then Dylan's paragraph. This was a writing prompt. The teacher gave a subject and the class had a few minutes to write a paragraph about the prompt. After they were finished the teacher collected them. After he read them he took Dylan aside and told him how awesome it was and that he had never read something so insightful. He asked if Dylan would mind him reading it aloud to the class. So he did.
We cannot give our kids enough praise when they do something great(and get recognized for it by their teacher).
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Slatter,
Dlyan wrote one of the finest things today that I've ever read in a writer's sketchbook. It was insightful, showed a lot of reflection, and was put in a very interesting way. He made a very ordinary assignment quite extraordinary.
I just wanted to tell you also how well Dylan works in class, how respectful he always is, and how cheerful he always seems to be. It has been great having him this year.

Super hero
My super hero doesn’t have any super powers. This super hero is a hero because his self confidence level is so high that he knows that he can do anything and anything is possible. He sets his standards so high which makes him a hero. This hero is unknown. This hero is a myth, a legend, no one knows when or if he will ever walk on this earth. Maybe someone has it in them and the hero is caged inside them. Locked away, possibly forever. Trying his hardest to get out but whoever this person is, will not let the hero out, perhaps this person is scared or nervous. Will he ever get out; will he ever be able to get what he has wanted for so long? How much longer will the hero last until he becomes a fragment of someone’s imagination? How long will it take to get his answer? How long, how long?
